What Is Osteopathic Manual Therapy?
Osteopathic manual therapy is a precise, hands-on approach to assessing and treating physical pain, restriction, and movement dysfunction. By combining a thorough health history, functional movement assessments, and skilled palpation, an Osteopathic Manual Therapist identifies areas where tissue mobility is limited. Targeted manual techniques are then used to restore motion, ease strain, and support the body’s natural ability to recover and adapt.
Core Principles in Practice:
– Structure & Function: How your body is structured directly affects how well it moves and functions.
– Circulation & Fluid Flow: Optimal movement relies on healthy blood supply, lymphatic drainage, and nerve signal flow.
– Whole-Person Systems: Physical, cognitive, and social factors interact constantly—your body operates as an integrated system, not a collection of isolated parts.
– Inherent Self-Healing: When mechanical restrictions and excessive physical stress are removed, the body naturally heals and restores balance.
In clinical practice, this means Tony will evaluate you as a whole person. The location of your pain is rarely the sole cause of the issue, so our goal is to identify how different areas of your body interact, share physical loads, and influence your recovery. Click here to read more about Tony.

FAQs
No, you do not need a referral to see an Osteopathic Manual Therapist.
If you have current and relevant scan reports (x-rays, MRIs, etc.) or medical letters please bring them with you.
Wear something comfortable, ideally your clothes should not restrict your movement and be lightweight (i.e not denim or thick fabrics). If you have leg symptoms please bring or wear shorts.
We will discuss your full medical history (an intake form will be emailed to you to complete prior to your appointment), as well as discuss your primary health concerns. We will focus on the aspects of your health history which require extra attention. We will then conduct a thorough examination, and the remainder of the appointment will be dedicated to treatment and discussing ways to manage your condition.
There are a number of factors that will determine how many treatments you will need to start seeing results. We typically recommend 3 to 6 treatments over a period of 6 weeks. We will constantly re-evaluate your condition and monitor your progress, and be open and honest with you about what we can do for your specific condition.
Osteopathic treatment coverage is available through most private health providers when you’re treated by a registered practitioner. Tony is registered with the Alberta Association of Osteopathic Manual Therapists (AAOMT).
