Dr. Marcus Higgins

Chiropractor

Marcus graduated from the AECC College of Chiropractors in Bournemouth, UK in 2016 with a first-class bachelor’s degree in science and a master’s in Chiropractic. While in Bournemouth he worked with Bournemouth Football Club in their first year of the Premier League before moving to a highly respected clinic in London, UK for 5 years.

In his clinical practice Marcus works with a wide range of demographics from international athletes to clients with complex medical conditions. Marcus works to understand and address the source of his client’s pain and applies multiple manual and active techniques to achieve results.

Marcus trained to include Functional Movement Screens (FMS) and Selective Functional Movement Assessments (SFMA) into his practice, along with the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI), enabling him to understand and treat key movement dysfunctions that can make people more susceptible to future injury.

Marcus adopts 3 main phases in his assessment and treatment to help get his clients get back to full function:

  1. Reset – resets are passive treatments provided by a therapist that the client can’t do for themselves such as advanced soft tissue work, manipulation/mobilization and stretching to help reduce pain and increase range of motion.
  2. Reinforcements – advise to protect and correct movement behaviours, helping to hold the integrity of the treatment provided. For example: ergonomics, sleep advice, taping, bracing, mobility programs.
  3. Re-train – this focuses on getting the right exercise, reps, sets and load to help re-train movement, motor control, strength, endurance, and overall capacity.

Marcus is registered with the College of Chiropractors of Alberta (registration number 2499).
