osteopathic therapy

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a method of diagnosis and manual treatment for muscle, tendon, ligament, joint and nerve conditions. Treatment works with the structure and function of the body, and is based on the principle that the body’s wellbeing depends on your joints, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together.

We commonly help our patients with the following conditions:

  • Back pain e.g disk injuries
  • Neck pain and headaches
  • Shoulder pain e.g. rotator cuff problems, frozen shoulder
  • Hand and elbow pain e.g. tennis/golfers elbow
  • Hip pain e.g. labral tear
  • Knee pain e.g. osteoarthritis
  • Foot and ankle pain e.g. plantar fasciitis, achilles tendinopathy

Your Osteopathic Therapy treatment with Tony will involve:

  • 1:1 appointment in a private room
  • Detailed assessment
  • Diagnosis with explanation
  • Manual therapy involving physical manipulation, stretching and massage to increase the mobility of your joints and soft tissues.

FAQs

No, you do not need a referral to see an Osteopathic Therapist.

If you have current and relevant scan reports (x-rays, MRIs, etc.) or medical letters please bring them with you.

Wear something comfortable, ideally your clothes should not restrict your movement and be lightweight (i.e not denim or thick fabrics). If you have leg symptoms please bring or wear shorts.

We will discuss your full medical history (an intake form will be emailed to you to complete prior to your appointment), as well as discuss your primary health concerns. We will focus on the aspects of your health history which require extra attention. We will then conduct a thorough examination to determine your diagnosis. The remainder of the appointment will be dedicated to treatment and discussing ways to manage your condition.

There are a number of factors that will determine how many treatments you will need to start seeing results. We typically recommend 3 to 6 treatments over a period of 6 weeks. We will constantly re-evaluate your condition and monitor your progress, and be open and honest with you about what we can do for your specific condition.

Osteopathic treatment coverage is available through most private health providers when you’re treated by a registered practitioner. Tony is registered with the Alberta Association of Osteopathic Manual Therapists (AAOMT).
